Attorney Gerald A. Griggs is a prominent Atlanta-based civil rights attorney, social justice advocate, and community leader with a distinguished legal and activist career.
Legal Career
Since being admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2004, Attorney Griggs has handled over a thousand cases, earning a reputation as a tenacious trial attorney known for managing high-profile cases. Notably, he represented clients in the Atlanta Public Schools Cheating Trial, formerly Georgia’s longest trial, and previously were involved in the R. Kelly sex trafficking matter .
Education
Attorney Griggs is a 1996 graduate of Woodward Academy. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Emory University in 2000 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2004 .
Community Leadership
Deeply committed to civil rights, Attorney Griggs serves as the President of both the Georgia State Conference and the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP. He was elected as the Georgia State Conference President in April 2022 and re-elected for a second term in October 2023 . His activism includes co-organizing the Atlanta March for Social Justice and Women, Georgia’s largest civil rights demonstration, and co-founding the Georgia Alliance for Social Justice.
Advocacy and Recognition
Attorney Griggs played a pivotal role in the Jaheem Herrera case, which spurred the national anti-bullying movement and led to changes in Georgia’s anti-bullying laws. He continues to advocate against bullying through school tours and national speaking engagements . His dedication to social justice has been recognized by various organizations, including honors from Congressman John Lewis, the Urban League, and the NAACP.
