Attorneys Respond as DA Refuses to File Charges After Middle School Student Jada West Killed in School Bus Stop Fight

October 12, 2026
VILLA RICA, GA - Attorneys for the family of Jada West, the 12-year-old who died just days after a fight that erupted at a school bus stop in the Atlanta suburb of Villa Rica, GA in March, released a statement today following Douglas County District Attorney Dalia Racine’s decision not to pursue charges in the 12-year-old’s death. West’s family is represented by nationally renowned civil rights attorneys Harry Daniels and Ben Crump as well as attorney Gerald Griggs.
Video of the fight which ultimately killed West went viral on social media sparking local and national outcry and raising serious questions particularly since the 12-year-old had suffered repeated bullying since recently transferring to Mason Creek Middle School.
The statement reads as follows:
Jada’s family is incredibly disappointed by the District Attorney’s decision not to bring charges.
The simple fact is that Jada’s genetic condition was exacerbated because she was attacked at the school bus stop. In other words, if she hadn’t been attacked, Jada would be alive with us today.
Those are the facts and they are as clear as can be.
